About Us

As we saw the end of the tunnel for careers in North Carolina public education, it was time to look for the next adventure.  Inspired by my best friend in South Carolina who recently purchased a boutique pet shop in Spartanburg, I saw the opportunity to combine some of the things I've grown to appreciate the most in life:  good places, good beers, and great dogs!  As the idea formed, and the plans evolved, the idea of Tails and Ales came to fruition. With the support and encouragement of my fantastic family, we have been able to create a space that people feel safe bringing their pets, and hopefully will find a peaceful place to sit with their pets, enjoy a sip of their favorite beverage, and most importantly to me, a place to recharge in a quiet, friendly retreat.

As we got closer to opening, I was able to connect with some fantastic people.  Ultimately, they didn't choose to join us on this journey, but they were just as important as they shaped my thoughts, and introduced me to Wendy Huffman Price.  I was blessed to be able to bring Wendy into the fold.  She is a fantastic groomer, who not only takes wonderful care of our clients, but is able to guide me as I find my way through the pet grooming industry.

This is just the first chapter.  I count myself fortunate for the connections I've already made who not only encourage me, but present opportunities to grow and learn on this journey.  We did our first marketing outreach with the Hickory Crawdads.  Lonnie Shook felt like a friend and advisor the first time I met him.  Jennie Eckard from First Commerical was invaluable in helping us get into this space.  Olde Hickory and City Walk probably don't realize how their staffs made me feel like this was attainable. Goodyear and Heard's Barbershop welcomed us to the neighborhood.  Ain't That a Bench built us a beautiful bar.  Every step of this journey we've been supported by great people that have been in place at just the right time.

We are looking forward to what 2026 brings as we continue to grow and learn. Our goal is to be an integral part of the Hickory community.  We want to take care of your pets, but we also want to play a small part in taking care of you.  There is nothing I personally like better than a quiet place to sit with my dog, enjoy a beer, and just not think.  I hope Tails and Ales can become that place for you.
